Thanks for starting this blog – it’s great as I really enjoyed your new series you started.

I am puzzled by the 4 hours claim on building this website and I was expecting to find a CMS website (ie WP, Posterous, etc.) but it looks like a website of yours?… How do you do that? (I mean how do you do it that fast?)
It looks pretty slick and cant understand how you did it in 4 hours? ;-) Did you reuse stuff?

Just to set up my own WP blog it took me much more time than that…

Cheers and keep the great work on these series

Jez – Thanks for your comment. The site is built on WordPress using a premium WP theme.

Registering the domain name, installing WP, configuring the main settings, installing a half-dozen plugins, adding the first 4 episodes, configuring the topnav and sidebar, writing content for the “about” page and creating the logo (which will soon be replaced by a logo from a designer whom I’ve hired) was under 4 hours.

Of course, I’ve done this kind of thing a few times…I discuss the steps I take in detail inside the Micropreneur Academy (www.micropreneur.com).

Another great review, Rob. You have a good eye for professionalism and design, and for knowing what looks right and what doesn’t.

Thanks for the explanation Rob – did not realise it was WP (duh, a simple view-source would have told me that!)

I think I registered a while ago to get notified of the next academy enrollment and I checked again your website (and registered again) but no indication of when (roughly) you will start a new one?
Does it depend on how much interest you have, or do you havea semi-fixed schedule?

    Thanks,
    Jez

ps: if you could add 5-10 mins to add a “Subscribe to Comments” plugin that would be great ;-)

Jez – No problem; I’ll get that plugin installed in the next few days.

Regarding the Academy; we’ll have another open enrollment period at the end of April so if you’re signed up you’ll receive an email when the doors open.

    Rob,

Thanks for providing some feedback. I appreciate having another set of eyes have a look at things.

I agree the site design is dated but as you aptly noted, I’m a developer not a designer and I will look at a re-write with some of the more current and professional looking themes. Funny enough though the site is based off a WP theme.

    Cheers,

    Kevin

    Another great review Rob.

I kind of like the real clean design style, and I see that on the site now is a logo on the top left that wasn’t there on your review. I think this has made a massive difference to the design alone.

But I do agree about what you said re the buttons. I don’t think it would cost too much to get some buttons designed and again it would make a real difference.

On the top right of the site, it might be an option to showcase the fact that it’s on the Microsoft Office Marketplace, which gives it great credibility.

Anyway, again thanks for these reviews, everyone can learn just by looking at other people’s site reviews.

    Cheers
    Craig
